THE ROUNDUP: Lunchbox Options That Aren’t Sandwiches 🚫 🥪

Here’s the thing: Back to school is hard enough without facing down an endless parade of sandwiches. (You remember what it was like to peek inside that brown paper bag only to see another sad sammy.) You can ease the transition by trying out a few new lunchbox options in the first week. Here are a few of our faves:

THE DEFINITION: After-School Restraint Collapse 😖

For so many kids, keeping it together throughout the school day takes Herculean effort. They’re required to follow instructions, stay seated, play nicely and listen effectively for SIX HOURS. It’s a lot.

For some kids, it takes so much out of them that they come home and have an epic meltdown moments after stepping off the bus or walking through the front door. They just can’t hold on anymore and their emotional response shows it. It can be baffling and frustrating to parents, but this post-school reaction is so common, it has a clinical name: after-school restraint collapse.

So, what can you do to help? Here are a few of the things our expert told us (and you can click the link below for the whole story!):

Save the “how was your day?” for later.

Have a snack ready to go.

Don’t load your child up with after-school extracurriculars.

Be mindful of your own emotions.

THE TREND: Kids Want Chocolate for Breakfast? 🍫 Talk Show Host Andy Cohen Can Relate

If your kids have ever sneaked a handful of potato chips or a few squares of chocolate before 9am, you’re not alone. Earlier this week, late night talk show host Andy Cohen posted a hilarious video where he asks his son, Ben, why he has a sore tummy. The answer? The little guy ate SEVEN Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups out of the freezer…for breakfast. This was on the heels of his post from a few weeks back where he discovered the same child munching through two bags of chips at 7am. Celebrities—their kids are just like ours, no?

Kids love a breakfast that tastes like a treat, but chips and chocolate might be pushing it. Give one of these a whirl instead:

🍦 Yogurt and Granola Breakfast Pops (yes, popsicles for breakfast!)
