The Perfect Tomato Soup—Just Add Grilled Cheese!

Ready. Set. Go!

THE RECIPE

Flavour-Bomb Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup

April is the perfect month for tomato soup. It’s warm and cozy for grey, rainy days, while also offering a brightness that reminds you that spring has sprung. Plus, it’s usually pretty darn easy to make. Our roasted red pepper and tomato soup proves that, requiring just a handful of ingredients (most of which you probably already have in your pantry!).

Serving tip the kids will love: Make a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches out of nice, crusty bread and cut them into croutons to toss right into the bowl!

THE POLL

How Do You Handle Yourself During a Kid Meltdown?

We usually go for funny for this section of The Weekly, but this post really struck a chord with us. We’ve all been there, in the midst of a kid meltdown, approaching peak frustration. The instinct is to ask them to stop, in exasperation, but have you ever considered flipping the script? Experts suggest offering a hug, or pulling your child into your lap to hold them until they can self-regulate. But this is sometimes easier said than done, so we want to know: Does this method of handling a meltdown seem doable to you?

THE QUESTION BOX

How Can I Get My Kid to Stop Picking Their Nose?

Pretty much every kid goes through a phase where they constantly have their finger up their nose. Is it gross? Yes. Will they still be doing it when they’re 18? Probably not. But if you can’t wait for them to outgrow this unsavoury habit, there are some things you can do to curb it sooner than later.

Here are a few strategies to try:

  • Kindly and calmly redirect your child. Pass them a tissue and ask them quietly to go and wash their hands. Avoid shaming them.

  • Teach your child how to blow their nose properly, so they know what to do when they feel nasal discomfort.

  • Use a humidifier and make sure they are well hydrated, to avoid dry, uncomfortable nasal passages.
