THE QUESTION BOX

What Tech Should My Kid Have to Go Back to School?

Hear that? That sound was the collective groan of your kids bemoaning the start of another school year.

At the very least, students can take comfort in knowing that at least there’s no shortage of amazing tech tools to make schoolwork less of a chore—regardless of their age or the subject matter they’re studying. Our resident tech expert Marc Saltzman shared his picks with us, to help give you and your kids a head start. You’ll get the lowdown on everything from his favourite smart speaker, to the printer that prints up to 5000 pages before needing an ink top-up.

But, if you’re not sure what kind of tech you need, wait until school starts before making a big purchase. After the first week of classes, it may become apparent that a specific piece of tech will really help with the work your child has on the horizon. Some schools also lend out certain things (laptop, tablets) for the year, so it might be that your money is best spent elsewhere while your child has a school-issued loaner.
