The Daylight Savings Time Change is the Worst—What Are Some Tips to Help?
Spring is just around the corner (yes, actually!). With the clocks moving forward this weekend, we’re losing an hour, so daylight will extend later into the day (into bedtime hours) and creep in earlier in the morning. It can be painful, we won’t lie.
So, we’ve got expert tips on managing the spring time change, to lessen the impact on your child’s sleep (and consequently yours, too!).
Before bed on Saturday night, set your clocks ahead one hour.
If your child typically sleeps until 6:30 a.m., they will likely sleep until 7:30 a.m. (new time).
If your child typically goes to bed at 7:30 p.m., after the time change, this would be 6:30 p.m. (based on internal clock).
On the day of the time change, their schedule—meals, naps and bedtime—will then shift one hour later and bedtime would be moved to 8:30 p.m. If the later morning wake time and later bedtime suit you, you can maintain this new schedule.
If you want to stick to your current timing, it’s a little trickier but totally manageable.
